Stephen is enthralled by a landscape which is so visually arresting and which is quite foreign to him. He is mesmerised by the dramatic light changes over the Grand Canyon which alter the evening view from a sharp outline to a soft focus purple haze within a matter of minutes as we watch, bewitched. We abandon all thoughts of drawing because it seems of far greater importance to leave Stephen to absorb the scenery and seize the opportunity to provide him with a unique visual landscape which he would, or would not, be able to recreate at his leisure on our return to England. The following morning, we are taken on a helicopter ride over the canyon from the south to the north rim.
