Returning from New York to London, Stephen was asked where he would like to go next. Paris! It is nice! - he said. Like a true pavement artist, he sprawled on the steps of the square, surrounded by holidaying British school children, who had seen him on the telly, and interested Parisians. Bonjour! - he would say as he looked up periodically from his drawing. The Pompidou Centre proved no problem for him as he sat in the early morning with his drawing board resting on a cafe table.
