One view seems to blend into another on a cruise so it’s not hard to see where the inspiration for this picture came from.
You may be able to distinguish Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, Palma's Castillo de Bellver and Marseille's grand cathedral amid the elegant pencil lines - a kind of Mediterranean greatest hits compilation in black and white. Royal Caribbean commissioned it from British artist Stephen Wiltshire, who drew it entirely from memory and stitched the views together in a fantasy panorama.
Wiltshire always commits views to memory before reproducing them later. You can see just how accurately when the picture is on display on board Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas next spring. It will be the largest cruise ship in the world when it launches in May.
