President Tony Tan Keng Yam stopped by the Paragon mall yesterday to give artist Stephen Wiltshire a helping hand with some fine touches to the Briton’s drawing of the Singapore cityscape.
The Briton will take until Sunday to produce the four-metre by one-metre artwork, commissioned by Singapore Press Holdings to mark its 30th anniversary. Called ‘See The Big Picture,’ the project, when completed, will be presented to Dr Tan as a gift to the nation to mark Singapore’s 50th anniversary next year.
Mr Wiltshire is renowned for being able to draw detailed cityscapes after viewing them just once. He took a helicopter ride with the Republic of Singapore Air Force on Tuesday to get an aerial view of the city. He has done drawings of Hong Kong, London and New York.
Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, who also heads the SG50 programme office, will be at the Paragon on Sunday, when Mr Wiltshire completes his drawing.
