American Dream
Stephen, now 18, has the amazing ability to capture perspective and detail in his drawings, particularly of buildings, and even from memory. Though innumerate, he can depict accurately the number of columns, arcades and windows in a building.
And his new collection of his drawings represents the realisation of a special ambition.
Three trips to America, which Stephen describes as his spiritual home, brought together this collection of his work, mainly from the cities of skyscrapers and traffic – his view of San Francisco from the air and the Chicago River are treasures – and also big country scenes like the Grand Canyon.
American Dream is unbelievable. For anyone who has visited the States, the drawings ooze atmosphere: you can hear the traffic, feel the size of the landscape.
While marveling at the talent of one so stricken, it is worth noting that here is a truly great artist at work.
