The world`s most famous autistic artist dropped into the borough to show off two of his unique panoramas. Stephen Wiltshire`s intricate 360-degree landscapes of Tokyo and Rome were drawn entirely from memory after the artist flew over the cities in a helicopter. ``The show will be a landmark event in the borough`s arts calendar this year and I urge everyone to pay a visit.``(Richmond Twickenham Times) READ ON...

Scenes from imagination

Already a member?

It is a common misconception that autistic artistic 'savants' merely record the visible and that they have no imagination or little ability to visualise. From an early age, Stephen produced a number of highly imaginative scenes the aftermath effect on buildings and the natural environment caused by earthquakes. These scenes of destruction were inspired by films and television and may be visual externalisations of his inner frustration or feeling of helplessness. Other images include an imaginative view of the interior of a lift shaft.

His topographical views from around the world also include a number of playful imaginative street and city scenes or buildings, which are a synthesis of existing or viewed scenes.
