"It should not be imagined, for a moment, that Stephen's perceptions or art are
confined to buildings. His first drawings, as a child, were of animals, and
these would make a delightful subject. When I saw Stephen in 1989, I gave him a
rosebud on a branch, and he did quite a lovely drawing of this. And right from
the start, since his 'wickedly clever' caricatures when he was seven, Stephen
was enjoyed portraying people, either 'straight' or commonly in amiable
cartoons.
